When I stop and think about it, it is a little bit odd that I visit cities and then seek out parks, the natural oases in the midst of all the urbanness — after all, why visit a city to spend time in nature? And yet, whenever I’m in New York I go to Central Park, Hyde Park when I’m in London. And when I visited Munich, I spent almost an entire day at their Englischer Garten. Incidentally, its name comes from the more informal landscaping style typical of gardens in England — I think as opposed to the formal gardens found in continental Europe.

I took the U-Bahn from my accommodation to the Universitat stop, and then walked north before turning east into the park. The Ludwig Maximilian University is nearby, and there are lots of cafes and restaurants in the area as well. I was sorry I didn’t have more time to spend there, because it seemed like a really great neighborhood with few other tourists.

At the edge of this neighborhood I found this beautiful archway. It reminded me a little bit of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, though smaller.
