Have You Seen Jury Duty? If Not, You’re Missing Out
How did they make something so boring so funny?
Okay, I’ll admit it. I was skeptical. I’m not a fan of reality TV, nor am I big fan of courtroom dramas. So it just didn’t seem like the type of show that would interest me that much.
But, a couple of weekends ago I was looking for something to watch, and I’d heard some surprisingly good things about it, so I figured why not give it a shot. After all, I could turn it off if I didn’t like it.
Two hours later, I was already halfway through the series, and I could hardly bring myself to stop watching to go to bed. Boy, had I been wrong about it.
The basic premise, for those of you who haven’t heard of it, is that there’s a film crew making a documentary about jury duty. The twist is, it’s a fake case, populated by actors, except one unsuspecting guy. His name is Ronald Gladden, and he’s (unknowingly) the star of the show.
I’m sure that they had quite an extensive interview process before choosing Ronald, but I still have to say that they lucked out. I’m not sure if the show would be nearly as charming if Ronald weren’t one of the sweetest people you’ve ever seen.
