I’m Not the Same Writer I Was When I First Joined Medium

But I’m okay with that

Lately I’ve been thinking about how much my writing here on Medium has changed. I wrote my first article about two and half years ago, during the pandemic. For my first year on Medium, I wrote about a variety of different things, but my primary niche was fitness.

Then there was a year where I didn’t write much. I had a lot of other things going on in my life that I needed to focus on, and I no longer had that much time. I of course did return to Medium again, though, last December.

When I came back I decided I would try writing a little bit about travel, as during that previous year I’d traveled more than I ever had before in my life. But, along with that, I figured I’d continue on with my fitness writing. It didn’t take long for me to realize that my enthusiasm for health and fitness topics had waned, however. Please don’t get me wrong, I think there are some great fitness writers out there. But for me personally, I felt like I was struggling to come up with original content that hadn’t already been written about 15,000 times.

Additionally, I realized that a lot of my early articles were very matter of fact and sort of bland. At the time, I’d thought this made my writing seem more professional, but eventually I realized it was just…
