I've read a couple of books on the list and there are several more that I plan to read soon. My Friend Dahmer maybe (?) deserves to be banned from schools if it's about what I think it's about, but for the most part these books are very important, both from a literary perspective, and as you pointed out, because kids need to see themselves reflected in stories.
