The Curse: Entertaining and Addictive — If You Can Stand It in the First Place
My thoughts after watching one of the best — and most uncomfortable — new shows on television
Imagine the most uncomfortable conversation you’ve ever had. Now multiply that to the length of around forty-five minutes to an hour. And add some creepy music. Now you pretty much have an episode of The Curse.
I know what you’re probably thinking — okay, so this is a show I should avoid at all costs then, right? And that’s understandable. But, believe it or not, I’m actually saying just the opposite. You absolutely should watch it.
Because, if you can stand the discomfort, it makes for some seriously addictive television.
And I’ll admit that there’s actually quite a bit more to it than what I initially said. Without giving away too many spoilers, the basic premise of the show involves a husband and wife (played by Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder) who, along with a troubled TV producer (Benny Safdie), are attempting to create a new program for HGTV about passive eco-homes in Espanola, New Mexico. And while this should be fairly straightforward, they soon find themselves at odds not only with the local community but also with each other.
