This is really helpful to know, though I'm sorry you had to go through that! It reminds me a little bit of the people who sell blankets, sunglasses, etc on Mediterranean beaches, and refuse to leave you alone until you either buy their products or leave the beach. Really unnerving (though I'm sure not half as scary as your experience).
