This is so interesting, I didn't know much about the Maldives, thank you for sharing! I absolutely agree that with many destinations like this where resorts are publicized as the only option, there are often much more reasonable hotels in slightly less touristy neighborhoods, which can be a good way to save money (and also have a more authentic cultural experience)
