Yeah I've felt this way sometimes too. I don't necessarily expect that everyone who I read should read my stories too if they're not interested in the content, but if we're writing in the same niche it does bother me a little bit. As you say, it's really not that hard, and I know people here on Medium who get tons of reads and comments and still manage to reciprocate, so it is possible!
