You make some really excellent points here Kenny. I know I definitely fall into the category of someone who likes to stay in my more liberal bubble of friends and avoid confrontation. But, you're right. I should probably try to engage more with people who aren't like-minded. There have been occasions when I have, and while some of them were fruitless and frustrating, I've also been able to have civil and even mildly positive conversations with those who have opposing viewpoints. But it can be difficult in an increasingly polarized society.
I'm gad you were able to have a decent conversation with the off-shore wind protester - I'm curious, do you think his mind was changed at all by any of your explanations? Either way, good for you for maintaining your cool in what could have been a tense situation.
